STAGE 3
AMOREBIETA-ETXANO > BAYONNEAfter crossing Lekeitio, Ondarroa, Zarautz and Donostia-San Sebastián, Irun will be the place where Euskadi tells the Tour de France... Laster arte!
03/07/2023 -> Amorebieta-Etxano > Bayonne (187,4 km)
The third stage of the Tour de France in Euskadi, which will undoubtedly be the third day without respite. A pioneer in Euskadi thanks to the construction of the cycling lanes that will connect the town with Iurreta, Amorebieta-Etxano will be the starting point for the day when the pelotón waves goodbye to the Basque roads and finish in Bayonne.
The Trabakua, Milloi, Itziar and Benta climbs will lead the peloton to the marker points after about 80 kilometres. The Cantabrian coastline and its spectacular views match the harshness of the road. A fertile ground for attacks and combativeness. After crossing Lekeitio, Ondarroa, Zarautz and Donostia-San Sebastián, Irun will be the place where Euskadi tells the Tour de France... Laster arte!
In a perfect combination of nature and history, Durangaldea offers areas of great scenic interest, such as Urkiola Natural Park or the mythical peak of Anboto; charming rural towns such as Atxondo and noble villages with a remarkable architectural heritage like Elorrio or Durango, as well as small jewels of medieval art such as the cross of Kurutziaga or the necropolis of Argiñeta, one of the most important burial sites of the Late Middle Ages in the Basque Country.
The Basque Coast Geopark is a small territory wedged between the Cantabrian Sea and the Basque mountains, formed by the municipalities of Zumaia, Deba and Mutriku. The Geopark’s 13 kilometres of cliffs offer a spectacular rock layer formation called flysch, showing us more than 60 million years of the Earth’s history, just as if it were a huge encyclopaedia.
And finally, Hondarribia. this town on the Basque Coast, bordering with the French Basque Country, has a special charm. Its walled old town and cobbled streets full of unique buildings such as the castle of Emperor Charles V, now a luxury hotel, and the picturesque La Marina district, with its colourful fishermen’s houses, restaurants and typical pintxo bars with terraces.
