Discover Basque Country by bicycle!
As part of its commitment to sustainable mobility, the Basque Country and its three territories have rolled out a complete network of bidegorris (cycle paths). Do you want to discover Bilbao, Donostia/San Sebastian and/or Vitoria-Gasteiz by bike? Do you want to go about your day-to-day activities using the healthiest and least polluting means of transport? You now have an extensive network that lets you move around the cities and enjoy all their charms.
In the links below you will find maps with geolocation, where you can see the options for each city and territory in detail.
During an easy bicycle ride starting out from the Arenal, you’ll have the chance to discover and enjoy some of this modern city’s icons, the Guggenheim Museum, the Euskalduna Conference Centre and the river are some of the main features.
Although we ought not to miss out on visiting some other highly interesting recommended places located close to the itinerary, such as the new San Mamés stadium, the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús monument, and Doña Casilda de Iturriza Park, where we can relax and enjoy this beautiful space.
The return journey gives us a chance to gaze upon the city from the other side of the river, giving us a different, but also attractive, view of Bilbao.
Using the extensive network of cycle paths or bidegorris (as they are called in the Basque Country), you can visit the beautiful city in a peaceful, different way. You’ll have the opportunity to go and discover some world-famous places around the city. By means of this route, the visitor will be able to gaze upon the imposing sight of the Kursaal, where the route begins, pedal alongside the most famous urban beach in the world, La Concha, and visit the Comb of the Wind sculpture by Eduardo Chillida. There will be a chance to visit Anoeta, the stadium of Real Sociedad Football Club, and to enjoy the sight of the beautiful bridges crossing the Urumea river as it makes its way to Cantabrian Sea.
Bicycle ride in Saint Sebastian
Vitoria-Gasteiz Green Ring Tour is a 19 miles circular path that surrounds the town, covering and connecting all parks belonging to the Green Ring.
From any point of the town the Ring is easily accessed, although Virgen Blanca Square is suggested as the starting point. Taking Paseo de la Senda as the connection you reach Basilica of San Prudencio in Armentia, in which vicinity the Ring can be accessed.
The route goes through many different landscapes, from forest in Zabalgana and Armentia parks, to urban ones in its path around the suburbs of the town. Most of it passes through The Green Ring path.
The route is a low-medium difficulty, suitable both for families and more experienced athletes; a perfect scenery to ride a bike.
Along the Ring you will find many environmental and cultural interest attractions and living spaces, fountains and lookouts where taking a rest. The most urban section allows us to enjoy cafes or shops too, just a few metres from the route.
Bicycle ride in Vitoria-Gasteiz
A route going all round the Ullíbarri-Gamboa reservoir. You can start from Landa or Garaio. If you wish you can also set out from Vitoria-Gasteiz, using the Vasco Navarro greenway as a link and adding about 12 kilometres to the route.
