• On June 11^th, Bizkaia will host "L'ÉTAPE BILBAO BY TOUR DE FRANCE", an unrepeatable cycling tour that will consist of an exact replica of the opening day of the Tour de France, with a start and finish line in Bilbao and 185 km.
• The event will be held as a one-off on the occasion of the Grand Départ Pays Basque and has a twofold objective: to attract and involve the amateur public in this event and to publicise the start of the Tour de France among the general public.

The Grand Départ Pays Basque 2023 is a historic milestone when it comes to showing the Basque institutions' capacity to attract and organise international events. The arrival of the Tour de France is a great opportunity to show the great passion felt in the Basque Country for cycling. And one of the ways of showing this enthusiasm will be by cycling along the same roads that the idols of the world peloton will be riding on the opening day of the 'Grande Boucle', which, this year, will be celebrating its 120th anniversary. 

Among the different activities that are being organised around the great event of the start of the race, and with the aim of making both the general public and cycling fans feel part of this huge celebration, the Grand Départ Pays Basque 2023 has decided to promote the creation of an exclusive edition of "L'ÉTAPE BILBAO BY TOUR DE FRANCE", an unrepeatable cycling tour that will cycle on June 11th along the same route as the opening day of the Tour de France 2023.

The Basque Country and its large cycling community have been waiting decades for a new arrival of the Tour de France. Just as Donostia - San Sebastian was the starting point in 1992, Bilbao is a city that has never seen the men's "Grande Boucle" before. The men's Tour de France has never travelled the roads of Bizkaia. In 2023, it will make its grand debut. And "L'Etape Bilbao by Tour de France" will be the only opportunity to be pioneers in such a special race, an exclusive edition that will consist of a replica of the first stage. 185 kilometres and more than 3,300 metres of slope, the same that Mikel Landa, Ion Izagirre, Pello Bilbao, Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogaçar, Wout Van Aert and Julian Alaphillipe, among others, will cover on 1 July.

An alternative route will also be offered, of a shorter distance and less demanding, for those less prepared touring cyclists. In brief, the aim is to provide options so that the range of participants is as wide as possible and everyone can live the dream of being a first person protagonist of the Tour de France 2023.

The march will be held on June 11th, a time when there will be a great Tour atmosphere. Fans will be able to create their own memories. The maillot designed exclusively for the occasion will not be missing.
